Flamingoes, White Horses and Duck Burgers

Today we got up, had breakfast and drove to Aiguës Mortes.  A fortified city  near the Camargue.       We wrote post cards while I dined and then ambled a bit more.

Then we drove to the Mas St. Germaine and  met Christophe and Laura who were our guides, Laura is the daughter of the owner of the Mas and Christophe our birding expert.  We retrieved our white Camarguise horses for our ride and then went out to the marsh to the lake amidst the black bulls to look for flamingoes.

If you look really hard you can see the specks in the distance, they are flamingoes!

They welcomed us by blaring their mating call, so we got to see the beautiful underside of beautiful wings.  The ride was awesome and it was fun to learn about the salt marsh, the flora and fauna and spend time with these two lovely people.  The bulls were lovely too.

We drove out along the lake hoping to see more flamingoes, which we did, but only one welcome per person!    There was a food truck in the middle of the Quarante square selling burgers, I had my very first duck burger!  It was delish, on a toasted bun, with goat cheese and mustard.  We came back to the B and B and Annika lit candles, we opened a bottle of Cahors wine, and had a friendly natter!  Bedtime!
The ride back was a long one and when we got back it was seriously past supper time.
